Workshops/Seminars/Community Discussions

AADD has developed a series of workshops on a variety of topics of importance to persons with intellectual disabilities, their families and caregivers. We host a number of workshops throughout the year at our Family Support Center in Decatur and at various locations around the Atlanta metro area. Our speakers are also available to speak to disability organizations, community groups, schools and local governments on any of our workshop topics. Workshop topics have included:

  • Guardianship
  • Sexual development and healthy sexual function
  • Dating and sexuality for young adults with developmental disabilities
  • Managing and supporting your child’s sexual behavior (for parents)
  • Behavior issues and creating a behavior plan
  • The challenges of the internet for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Transitioning out of high school
  • Transition planning throughout adulthood
  • Post-secondary education for young adults with developmental disabilities
  • Supported and customized employment
  • Person-centered planning
  • Self-directing the NOW and COMP waivers
  • Futures planning for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families

Throughout the year we also visit communities around the state to hold community discussions called “Conversations that Matter.”
