Moving at age 60 is never easy, but moving to a new state with a teenage grandson with a developmental disability who is your responsibility is daunting. What are the school options? Where do I go for medical assistance? What programs are there for my grandson? Through the work of the ADRC this grandmother learned how to access numerous resources and was even connected to a support group for grandparents raising grandchildren.
Recognizing that accessing the resources available for persons who have disabilities and persons who are aging is often a confusing and frustrating task, AADD is working with the Atlanta Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging to provide information about services for individuals with diverse needs:
- persons with developmental disabilities
- older persons
- family members and caregivers
- professionals in the fields of healthcare, education, social services and advocacy
- local businesses concerned about the care-giving needs of their employees.
To reach the ADRC, call Riki at 404.881.9777 Ext. 223 or by email. Please see www.georgiaadrc.org for statewide information. The Aging and Disabilities Resource Connection is co-located at AADD and the Atlanta Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging and is administered by the Division of Aging Services of the Georgia Department of Human Resources. |
