About Developmental Disabilities
“Developmental Disabilities” is the umbrella term used to describe mental and/or physical impairments as well as genetic and chromosomal disorders such as:
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Cerebral palsy
- Spina bifida
- Down syndrome
- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders
- Intellectual disabilities
The causes of developmental disabilities are varied–most are unpredictable and many are unpreventable–but there is one common thread that binds all individuals living with developmental disabilities: the desire to live a full, stable life, fully engaged in their family and their community. It’s a desire that we all share, and a right that AADD believes everyone deserves.
